Wadulh Dunes
Wadulh Dunes is a 90-acre restoration project on the Humboldt coast, just north of Lanphere Dunes. The goal of this project is to restore and enhance 90 acres of coastal dunes that were invaded by non-native species and partially transitioned to scrubland. This project required a multi-year site-specific seed collection effort for annual and perennial native dune species. This site-specific seed collection was used for broadcast seeding and for growing over 400,000 container plants. This project also involved extensive weed control for removal of invasive European dune grass (Ammophila arenaria), yellow bush lupine (Lupinus arboreus), and non-dune species that encroached into the area. The project involved erosion control in the form of sand fences to stabilize the formation of new dunes and to allow for planting. Access was very limited to the site, requiring materials to be hiked or hauled in using a side-by-side.
