Seaview Ranch Coastal Prairie

Seaview Ranch is a 100-acre parcel owned by the Willis D Hadley Foundation in the foothills of the Wildcats in Ferndale, CA. The site is located about three miles east of the Pacific Ocean, about three miles south of the Eel River. The goal of this project is to restore and enhance a 2-acre remnant grassland that has been encroached upon by Sitka spruce, grand fir, and Douglas fir forest. 

Samara Restoration is working with Willis D. Hadley Foundation to restore and enhance coastal prairie habitat at Seaview Ranch. From 2023 to present, we conducted historical research, conducted baseline botanical surveys, and designed, planned, and implemented annual restoration plans for this project.  

The restoration actions at this site include invasive species removal, forest thinning, tree limbing, burn pile creation, revegetation, and weed management. We continue to conduct annual restoration activities at this site as we work to establish native coastal prairie vegetation here.
