Wood Creek Phase III
This project is the third phase of restoration on Wood Creek, at the conjunction of Myrtle Avenue and Felt Road in Eureka. Restoration of Wood Creek began in 2009 on Freshwater Farms Reserve property on the north side of Myrtle Avenue. This project aims to restore historical connectivity and function of freshwater wetlands on Felt Ranch, along the south side of Myrtle Avenue, to the tidal channels of Wood Creek and Freshwater Slough. Restoring the connection of these waters aims to improve off-channel rearing habitat for aquatic wildlife and provide climate change resilience.
We provided and installed 19,000+ native wetland plants for this project in Fall 2025. We are growing an additional 42,000+ plants to be installed by our crew in Fall 2026. Additionally, we will be conducting invasive species control of reed canary grass at this site. We continue to monitor and maintain this site through 2029.
